L. RON HUBBARD LANDMARK SITE

Aberdeen Road, New Jersey

Let’s do a little bit of reminiscing. In 1950, people used to come into the Hubbard Dianetic Research Foundation in Elizabeth, New Jersey, 42 Aberdeen Road. And we, every morning, opened the doors, not having closed them the night before. And we would discover a great many people there that we had never seen before, but who had read the First Book.” —LRH

And, indeed, such were the numbers of readers turning up at Aberdeen Road to attend Ron’s first lectures on Dianetics in June 1950, complaints were lodged regarding excessive vehicular traffic. While if only to add insult to neighborly injury, virtually every other car bore an out-of-state license plate! But, of course, when one was about to enroll in the first Dianetics Foundation class as taught by the Dianetics author himself—who cared about a parking ticket?

The house on Aberdeen Road precisely reflects such spirit of the season. Indeed, among other artifacts on display is a letter from the realtor concerning “the volume of cars parked in front of the property.”

To which Ron wryly replied: “Happily for me if unhappily for you I have a book on the bestseller lists. The volume of traffic cannot be stopped.”
